When Is The Best Time To Get Documentary Newborn Photos?

In all the excitement of a new baby’s arrival, many parents don’t think about capturing this magical time in your family’s lives. You are just trying to sneak in naps as much as you can, keep up with feeding times, and getting those dirty diapers out of proximity ASAP! So this is my helpful reminder; plan ahead and research your photographer in the couple months before your due date. When is the best time to get documentary newborn photos? I would answer that the timing is very specific actually.

Well, this part may be a bit subjective, but it’s when you and your family have settled. In my experience this usually happens for a family towards the end of the first month. Between day 14 and 30 is when I see a lot of parents hit their stride with their new bundle of joy.

After reviewing the work of photographers in your area, contact the photographer you most like. Communicate as early as possible your due date. Good photographers get booked weeks or months in advance. You don’t want to run the risk of your photographer being booked already.

Don’t Miss You Chance To Capture Something Special

When I first met Kari and Ian 4 years ago,I captured their first maternity session for them. I was recently contacted by these two to document their second bundle of joy. They told me how happy they were that they planned to capture their eldest son in his earliest days. So it was a no brainer for them that they would capture the 4th addition to their happy family all these years later.

As you can see they were able to get a documentary photo session of baby Truman at just the right time. He was eyes wide open, yet still in his adorable newborn phase. Also, this timing gave Kari and Ian the ability to get settled and hit their stride with baby #2. This showed in the pictures, as you can see they were comfortable and relaxed.
